Manufacturing Engineer | ArvinMeritor, Inc. | Manning, SC

OVERVIEW
  • The Manufacturing Engineer will provide services in planning, development, implementation and improvement of production processes.
  • The Manufacturing Engineer has the responsibility for product quality and shall have the authority to stop production to correct quality problems.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing systems and develop new systems as required to optimize production methods and efficiencies, machine utilization, component capacity, material flow, worker safety, and product quality.
  • Participate in Annual Operating Plan development.
  • Establish manufacturing process, tooling, fixtures, gages, equipment and resulting standard costs for the quotation of new business.
  • Generate Drawing Change Requests to modify product designs when necessary to solve manufacturing process or quality problems.
  • Conduct capacity/utilization studies to determine the utilization of existing machines, and the capacity of systems to produce required volumes.
  • Recognize and initiate cost reduction and manufacturing process improvement projects in order to reduce labor standards, increase labor efficiencies, and improve product quality.
  • Coordinate, and implement projects identified in the capital spending plan or otherwise relating to the optimization of new or existing manufacturing system.
  • Develop project specification and write the Request for Quote to be submitted to purchasing for distribution to qualified venders. Facilitate the appointed vendors in clarifying system specifications and developing project plans. Evaluate the vendor quotes and select the optimum system. Projects will take on ever increasing degrees of difficulty, complexity, and dollar value.
  • Write Appropriation Requests with detail proposed projects, estimate total capital expenditure required, and develop cost justification for each project.
  • Cooperate with quality control to conduct machine capability studies (runoff) required before and after delivery of equipment. Facilitate the development of new gages.
  • Work closely with Tool Engineering to specify new tooling and/or fixtures required for project implementation.
  • Apply industrial engineering techniques to develop, implement and maintain plant layouts, part routings and standards, and manufacturing methods as required for each project. Make changes to on-line computer system as required.
  • Identify and implement ergonomic and safety projects in the manufacturing environment.
  • Plan and coordinate the timing for services provided by each plant function and outside contractor to ensure a smooth project implementation. Review and understand all technical services provided.
  • Direct maintenance technicians and/or outside contractors as necessary and resolve any problems that arise during implementation. Conduct follow-up audits to verify estimated savings.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree in engineering required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
  • Two years experience in an industrial assembly-manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Computer skills necessary to perform the functions of the position.
  • Written and verbal communication skills required
  • Time management skills
